a not so ordinary day

last night, i watched this amazing movie- Ligy J. Pullappally's "The Journey" which is about a lesbian relationship in South India. it was extremely moving; so much so that after i saw it the first time, i watched the movie again with the director's comments. it was phenomenal! anyhow, as a result of this, i went to bed extremely late which did not have such a great impact on my workout this morning... i woke up late and did not have that much time to work out. but in a way, it was worth it!

2/28/06: 4 miles cycling and 1 mile running.

ordinary day

7.5 miles of cycling and 2 miles of running...

rising to the challenge

2/25/06: 3 miles of running in 29 minutes and 37 seconds

triumph: my energy and motivation levels were high today!

challenge: pushing myself to run 3 miles in under 30 minutes... this is my biggest challenge...

random thoughts: i am so grateful that tomorrow is Sunday- my rest day! tonight i am going out dancing- really looking forward to it.

one more thing: over the last week, i met two women who are participating in the Gay Games- one is doing sailboat racing and the other, soccer. also, today my (male) bestfriend, Jorge, told me that he finally registered for the gay games- he is participating in the marathon! i am so happy!

in memory of Rose

2/24/06: 10 miles cycling; 1.75 miles running.

triumphs: after a long day's work, i had the energy to get through my workout. challenges: after i started cycling, i learned my ipod was out of juice.

this evening, i dedicated my workout to my late maternal grandmother. monday would have been her 93rd birthday. (she passed January 2000.) i thought about how she used to run her yarn business- she was a savvy woman and such a hard worker- a workaholic... (the apple does not fall from the tree!) she loved riding public (SEPTA) buses all over Philadelphia; i remember accompanying her on countless occasions. her favorite department store was John Wannamaker- the first department store in the U.S. (i don't think it exists anymore.) and she would do just about anything to hit a yard sale. i miss her but i know/feel her spirit lives within me.

trade off

usually, i train prior to work- in the early morning hours (between 6:30 and 7:30 am)... yes- i am a morning person! but last night, i was out until 1 am- was having drinks with Diane who was in from NYC and Jolsna who, after three gruelsome days, completed the BAR exam... naturally, i woke up at the last possible minute before running through the shower and cycling off to work... what does this all mean? i must train tonight instead of relaxing or spending time with a friend...

and a word or two on drinking alcohol while training... it is impossible for me to have one or two drinks the night before i train. i find that it is so hard to get out of bed the next morning... and so, i've discovered wine spritzers! seltzer with a splash of my favorite white wine and a twist of lime! =)

2/23/06: cycled 9 miles; ran 1.5 miles. triumphs: got through it; feel myself gaining endurance. challenges: isolating more time for training purposes. inspirations: an older man that i run into most days in the gym; Sasha Cohen! random thoughts: i love the song "Love On My Mind" by The Freemasons. it is the best song to hear when running. i love cucumber-lemon water!

Purpose

i am in the process of training for a sprint distance triathlon to be held this July in Chicago at the Gay Games. so far, it has been both an exhilirating and challenging experience. for the next five months, i have decided to write about my journey. feel free to share your thoughts, feelings, reactions, etc.
