Mad Hot Ballroom
this evening after work, I watched Mad Hot Ballroom- an insightful doumentary about 11 year old, NYC public school kids who learn to dance merengue, rumba, tango, foxtrot, and swing.
what did i enjoy most about the film?
the way in which the art of dancing transformed young people on many levels, including from reluctance at learning dance to determination at winning a citywide competition and from hopelessness to hopefulness about their personal lives...
the film reminded me about many aspects of growing up in the bronx as well as reaffirmed my love for films where children are the main characters as well as my passion for working with young people...
